BANKRUPTCY

Times are tough. Your next door neighbor probably filed for bankruptcy last year. They didn’t tell you. If it is your turn, try not to be too troubled. The economy is horrible. This was not your fault. You have committed no crime. You made no promise you did not intend to keep.

Things happen.

The credit card companies will survive without your money.

It would be great to see:
-Pay stubs for the past six months.
-Lawsuits if you are being sued.
-Your bills for the past 90 days.
-A couple of years of tax returns
-A few months of bank statements.

But, if you don’t have all of this, we can still figure out whether you are a good candidate for bankruptcy and whether it will be helpful to you and your family.
Bankruptcy can (with the usual disclaimers...not all the time and not for everyone):
  -Stop lawsuits.
  -Stop creditors harassing phone calls.
-Let you keep everything you have.
-Let you keep your house (you do have to keep paying).
  -And your car.
-And (a little) money in the bank.
-Get your credit back in shape more quickly than not filing.
-Make it easier for you to buy a house in a few years.

There are a lot of questions to answer. Bankruptcy isn’t a great idea for everyone. I’ve been filing Bankruptcies here in Palm Beach County since 1985 (and I believe the vast majority of my clients have been pleased with their decision to file).
